NCCA Opens 2027 Grant Opportunities in Visayas Roadshow
Artists, cultural workers, local government representatives, educators, heritage advocates, and community leaders from across the Visayas converged July 27 at Citadines Hotel in Bacolod City for the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Visayas Island Cluster Roadshow and Technical Assistance for the 2027 Competitive Grants Program, a gathering that underscored the importance of empowering cultural institutions and communities to shape the nation’s creative future.

More than an orientation, the roadshow served as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and capacity building as the NCCA introduced prospective proponents to the opportunities offered under its 2027 Competitive Grants Program. Participants also received technical guidance on project development, proposal writing, and accreditation requirements, equipping them with the knowledge needed to transform cultural ideas into impactful, fundable initiatives.
The event featured a comprehensive project proposal writeshop designed to strengthen participants’ ability to prepare competitive proposals aligned with the NCCA’s development priorities. Representatives from national government agencies, local government units, non-government organizations, state colleges and universities, people’s organizations, and Indigenous Peoples Organizations took part in the intensive sessions.
With the application deadline set for August 31, 2026, the roadshow emphasized the importance of thoughtful planning, community engagement, and cultural relevance in project design.
The grants program spans the diverse disciplines and mandates of the NCCA’s subcommissions, reflecting the breadth of Philippine cultural expression.
Under the Subcommission on the Arts, proponents may develop initiatives in Architecture and Allied Arts, Cinema, Dance, Dramatic Arts, Literary Arts, Music, and Visual Arts, encouraging both artistic excellence and wider public participation in the arts.
The Subcommission on Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts supports programs that promote and safeguard the living traditions of Northern, Central, and Southern cultural communities, recognizing Indigenous knowledge systems and traditional artistic practices as vital components of the country’s cultural identity.
Meanwhile, the Subcommission on Cultural Dissemination welcomes proposals in communication, cultural education, and language and translation, strengthening public appreciation and accessibility of Philippine culture.
Projects focused on preservation and historical memory are supported through the Subcommission on Cultural Heritage, which covers archives, art galleries, historical research, libraries and information services, monuments and sites, and museums.
Across these subcommissions, the 2027 Competitive Grants Program is anchored on six overarching funding themes that seek to advance Philippine culture in meaningful and sustainable ways.
These include building the capacities of individuals and organizations through training, workshops, scholarships, and leadership development; creating and presenting artistic works through festivals, performances, exhibitions, and productions; generating knowledge through research, documentation, publications, translations, and cultural inventories; preserving and safeguarding heritage through conservation initiatives, museums, libraries, archives, and cultural mapping; strengthening communities through community arts programs, Indigenous cultural initiatives, creative hubs, youth engagement, and livelihood projects; and improving cultural systems through governance, policy development, partnerships, communications, repositories, and the enhancement of cultural facilities.
The NCCA likewise highlighted the project types that receive significant support under the grants program. These include capacity-building and training initiatives, research and documentation projects, publications, festivals and exhibitions, summits and public events, artistic productions, as well as programs dedicated to community development, heritage preservation, and institutional strengthening.
Beyond technical instruction, the Visayas Island Cluster Roadshow reflected the NCCA’s continuing commitment to democratizing access to cultural resources by bringing grant opportunities closer to regional stakeholders. By engaging cultural workers where they are, the Commission encourages more locally rooted, community-responsive, and culturally significant projects that celebrate the diversity of Philippine heritage.
As participants left the writeshop with refined concepts, practical guidance, and renewed inspiration, the gathering reinforced a shared vision: that culture flourishes when communities are empowered to tell their own stories, preserve their heritage, and create works that enrich the nation’s collective identity.
With the August 31 submission deadline approaching, the roadshow has set the stage for another cycle of innovative cultural initiatives that will continue to strengthen the Philippines’ vibrant artistic and cultural landscape through the 2027 Competitive Grants Program.
