Em-Em Guarin led attendees through the artistic process and encouraged personal expression through color and form. Participants explored watercolor techniques inspired by floral imagery, symbolizing growth, resilience, and the many ways women continue to thrive and bloom.
The session fostered a calm and supportive environment where participants painted, exchanged stories, and connected through shared creativity, transforming the afternoon into a vibrant celebration of art, empowerment, and inspiration.
Art workshops like “Petals and Power” provide a platform for participants to explore self-expression and artistic development. By focusing on floral-inspired designs, the workshop encourages attendees to translate personal emotions and ideas into color, form, and texture, making the creative process as meaningful as the finished artwork.
Distinctive medium
Watercolor serves as an ideal medium for beginners because of its accessibility and affordability.
Unlike oil or acrylic paints, watercolor requires only basic materials—paints, brushes, paper, and water—allowing beginners to start experimenting without a significant investment. Its simple setup and easy cleanup also allow participants to focus on exploring their creativity rather than on technical preparation.

At the same time, watercolor provides opportunities to develop patience and learn control.
The fluid nature of the medium means paint can behave unpredictably, spreading or blending in unexpected ways. First-time learners must carefully balance water, pigment, and brush pressure to achieve the desired effects, making each stroke an exercise in mindfulness and intentionality.

The transparency of watercolor further reinforces this discipline, as mistakes cannot easily be corrected and require careful planning and timing.
Through hands-on exercises and guided demonstrations, participants practiced fundamental techniques while gaining insight into the medium’s balance of spontaneity and precision.
Petals and Power demonstrates that watercolor not only serves as an approachable introduction to painting but also as a tool for self-expression, reflection, and personal growth. Participants not only learned new artistic skills but also gained the creative confidence that comes from translating ideas and emotions into visual form.
